A young civilian engaged in aerospace development.
Saji's fate has been radically changed by experiences including the death of his older sister due to a past incident involving Celestial Being as well as his breakup with his girlfriend.
While working as a colony-development engineer, a long-cherished dream of his, he was arrested for suspected involvement with the anti-Federation organization Katharon, and he would have been killed during an automaton experiment if not for the help of Setsuna F. Seiei.
While safely aboard the Ptolemaios 2, Saji learned that Setsuna was a member of Celestial Being and angrily confronted him about it, but he later caused the deaths of many people while he was visiting Katharon's base, and he started trying to redeem himself by working on ship repairs and other tasks.
He eventually learned that his ex-girlfriend Louise was with the A-LAWS, decided to win her back, and ended up taking his place on the battlefield in the 0 Raiser.
